In this episode we talk about UCAS, how some students don't always get the right support from their teachers and the importance of having a great personal statement. We discuss how work experience in a hospital or clinic isn't the only way to succeed and how to overcome an uneven playing field when applying for medical school.
Find out how a devastating and unfortunate event at college changed the course of Amz's life!
Our 3 golden pieces of advice for preparing to apply for medicine:
- Identify medical school entry requirements, the exams which need to be sat and prepare well for them (UKCAT, BMAT, GAMSAT etc). Spend time and effort preparing a well written and concise personal statement showcasing your passion and dedication to pursue medicine.
- Work experience in healthcare, hospital or clinical settings are the gold standard however if you are unable to secure such placements always find experiences which showcase other skills required to be a good doctor. Try to focus on skills such as communication, leadership, problem solving, teamwork as well as many others.
- Try and secure a mentor!
