Episode 29: Dr Mahfuj Ahmed - Serving the deaf community, NHS and the lessons from failing 2 years of medical school

This week’s guest talks about the virtues of being at the service of others, we talk about the Muslim deaf community in the UK and the barriers they face. We explore why some families exert pressure for their children to pursue medicine and the importance of job security and finance. Find out the lessons he learnt by failing 2 years of medical school. Furthermore we talk about the power of social media and his newly founded charity in Bangladesh.      

Dr Mahfuj T Ahmed is a GPST1 in London, graduating from King’s College London. He is a Trustee and Director at Al Isharah, a charity that leads on making Islam accessible for the deaf. He founded Jothno - WeCare, a charity organisation which aims to develop primary care in the rural areas in third world countries. Through his social media platform @slaveandoc he aims to portray the life of a medic, balancing faith and medicine through his posts and anecdotes.
